MAKING HUMANITY VISIBLE AGAIN.
OBJECTIVE
Refresh and refine the visual identity for Be More Human — a Philadelphia-based purpose-driven apparel brand built around celebrating everyday humanity through community, visibility, and positive impact. The updated identity needed to feel premium, philosophical, and culturally relevant while supporting the brand’s long-term growth beyond Philadelphia.
At the same time, the work needed to preserve the authenticity that made the brand resonate in the first place: understated apparel, intentional messaging, and a movement rooted in public acts of humanity. The result needed to function not just as a clothing brand, but as a recognizable symbol of connection and shared values.
SOLUTION
Following a comprehensive brand audit, we partnered with Be More Human to evolve the brand system into something more cohesive, elevated, and emotionally resonant. The opportunity wasn’t to reinvent the brand — it was to sharpen its purpose and create a clearer expression of the movement behind it.
From the beginning, connection became the conceptual foundation for the identity. While initial inspiration came from Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Bridge and its visual resemblance to the structure of an “H,” we explored identity directions that went beyond local landmarks. Our goal for this brand was to communicate a representation of humanity itself: connection, support, and movement between people.
Messaging development focused equally on emotional clarity and cultural relevance. Drawing inspiration from manifesto-style language and public participation, we helped define a voice that positioned humanity as something active and visible rather than abstract. Phrases like “We exist to fund humanity” and “Be More Human exists to make humanity visible again” established a framework that could naturally extend into apparel, social media, and community storytelling.
Visually, the identity system embraced restraint and intentionality. Clean typography, earthy tones, and minimal applications created a more premium and timeless presence while maintaining the accessibility central to the brand. White remained a core visual element within the system, ensuring flexibility across apparel production while preserving strong visual simplicity.
Special attention was given to scale and placement throughout the identity. Rather than dominating garments, the logo was designed to operate as a subtle reminder — small, intentional, and quietly recognizable. Inspired by mural placements and understated apparel branding, the system was built to feel personal rather than promotional.
The resulting creative framework gave Be More Human a scalable visual language capable of growing from a local Philadelphia movement into a broader cultural platform centered around visibility, empathy, and public humanity.

"We came to Defy with a clear mission but we were struggling to communicate it. From day one their team took the time to understand us and what we were trying to convey. They came back with refreshed branding, a new logo, and messaging that finally tells our story the way we'd always meant to. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Nik and — Nathan Madden, Founder & CEO
