Constellation Culinary Group is a nationally recognized catering company headquartered in Philadelphia. Defy and Constellation teamed up to enhance Constellation’s brand assets.
With a footprint stretching across the continental United States, Constellation is known for providing best-in-class dining experiences for one-of-a-kind events, cultural centers, professional settings, restaurants, and cafes. In late 2020, at the peak of the pandemic, Constellation was in need of digital assets to showcase its diverse team and myriad offerings. The objective was to give anyone, anywhere a taste of Constellation’s expertise.
If you’re ever lucky enough to stumble upon one of Constellation’s locations, you probably wouldn’t notice it was theirs. That’s because the brand prides itself on creating unique experiences that blend seamlessly with their surroundings. For instance, their Frank Gehry-designed restaurant, Stir, located at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, complements the museum’s rotating exhibits and ionic halls with seasonal menus and an architecturally unique setting.
When courting new business, Constellation relies on those one-of-a-kind venue experiences, especially because they’re powered by Constellation’s people, who are talented, dynamic, and the embodiment of all the brand stands for. So, when social distancing put a stop to in-person showcases and presentations, standing out from the pack became a challenge.
With lockdown in full effect, filming Constellation’s team or locations was not an option. Instead we leveraged footage we had captured a year earlier during a multi-day, multi-location shoot. Since a lot of the footage we had archived featured mask-less, non-COVID friendly scenes and staff members no longer with the company, we got to work evaluating what was usable.
From that bank of usable footage, our team scripted a 30-second brand sizzle showcasing Constellation from farm to table. The script was framed around the pillars of the brand: sustainable sourcing, culinary excellence, attention to detail, and a diverse staff. Our editor pieced it all together and the Constellation team approved the spot on the first share.
While the video asset was an essential part of the puzzle, the way it was presented was even more important. Presentation, after all, is the name of the game in the culinary industry.
We determined that the best vehicle for delivery of the video in response to a significant local RFP would be a bespoke, interactive web experience. With only two weeks to turn around this experience, we utilized the Wix page builder platform to quickly develop a scroll-activated landing page featuring custom illustrations woven together via a parallax effect.
When working with Constellation, you notice quickly that they are good listeners – in order to deliver the level of service that they provide, they need to be. The Constellation team understands that communication is key, and it was that honest and thoughtful two-way collaboration that enabled us to deliver a product that was deserving of the Constellation name.
We had the benefit of visiting locations, working with their team, and experiencing their offerings before the pandemic. We leveraged our experience with the brand and our relationship with our client, ultimately providing a sophisticated package of solutions that felt as if it was designed by Constellation themselves.
